Christian Love and Compassion. Feel it. Feel the love.

It's not Catholic bashing. It's not even Christian bashing.

It's hypocrite bashing, pure and simple.

Oh yeah!

I have had occasion to remark elsewhere that the most vitriolic exposes of sexual abuse by clergy may be found in the works of Fr Andrew Greeley. This is as it should be, because for priests it should be, and frequently is, personal. [Just as, when I was a teacher, I got VERY hot under the collar about teachers doing the same thing. You bastards, how dare you, etc.]

Clearly Bishop F was standing behind the door when the Christian charity got handed out in his seminary class.

Actually, this whole situation just makes me feel sorry for misjudging Tony Abbott. Apparently bare-faced lying, victim-bashing and arse-covering for the organisation at any cost, may not have been traits inherent in his nature, but rather behaviors taught by his religious mentor.

If I'm even within striking distance of Bishop Anthony Fisher, so help me I'm going to punch him 'pretty damn hard' on the nose.

And then tell him: "Sorry. I'm dwelling crankily ... on old wounds".

Whilst not condoning the actions of the priests involved or the church, I can see what the bishop was trying to say ... some people are pursuing their pain and sufferring through zealous condemnation of the church and persecution of its leaders. Sure, the church often does not handle these incidents very well, but at the same time neither do those who have sufferred.

"dwelling crankily ... on old wounds" might simply mean that to wallow in pain endlessly is not helpful to anyone. But then this phrasing is poor, and one could argue that those hurting are simply trying to ease the pain by having the church admit to its past sins - but hang on, hasn't it done this? I don't see people pursuing John Howard and the Liberal Party in the same way as some are the Church, and Howard did terrible things to a great many more people (Iraq, Children Overboard, Detention Camps ...).
