That web site from a group that no-one has ever heard of ("The Secret Al Qa'eda Jihadi Group of Europe?" "Nonono, the European Secret Jihadist Al Qa'eda Group ... splitters!") claiming responsiblity is being run with as evidence of something.

1) Anyone who has read the City Guard books of Pratchett will recognise the name 'Done-it Duncan'.
2) So, you're saying that Al Qa'eda did this? Wow! Fuck me! I would never have guessed! I thought it was the Boy Scout Association.

Of course, those dropkicks who take that website as conclusive proof of something or other are using it already in their rhetoric to prove ... well, something or other. I'm not sure what, except that taking a website that gives no actual information, and says pretty well what you would expect it to, and taking the fact that it does say what you expect it to as proof of anything only proves that some people desperately need a cranio-rectal-inversion correction. Desperately.

I heard a soundbute from Tony blair this morning saying something about that the attacks had been timed to coincide with the G8 summit. Personally I think they were timed to go with the announcement of the Olympics and that they may have had a similar set up in Paris waiting for the right word.

I could be mistaken but given that most terrorist group want to cause fear and terror what better time to set off a bomb than the morning after everyone went bananas with happiness.

But then I'd never heard of Jamal Islamia until after the Bali Bombings.

Neither had I, but I'm not an expert on international terrorism, and I'm guessing that neither are you. Other people, OTOH, had heard of Jemal Islamia, and knew them quite well. And I had heard of abu Bakar Bashir, and the allegations that he was involved with a terrorist Islamic fundamentalist group, so in a sense I had heard of JI, I just didn't know its name.

From the reports last night, from people who are experts in Al Qa'eda and its offspring, none of them had heard of this group, and it's their job to know.

It's not simply that it is unknown, it is that the only, the only information on them is that they 1) speak arabic, 2) put up a web site, and 3) say that they dunnit.

On usual showing, expect a half-dozen more by the end of the day. Of itself, it means precisely nothing.

Yeah pretty much any yokel can claim they were behind the bombing. Whether they are or not is seriously up for debate.
