And yet, when you talk to people about the great Renaissance scholar, Bishop Alcuin, they stare at you blankly.

The whole Rinascimento thing got way out of control, long ago. We're probably better off without it, although at least in Art History we think we know what we mean by it. *short drumroll* enter Masaccio and St Peter.

Which makes this very obviously Early Gothic painting being described as Renaissance really rather pathetic. Have some perspective, people!
