Its one of the creatures talked about in one of the Harry Potter books, either Care of Magical Creatures class or Defense against Dark Arts - the book where Lupin is the Defense against Dark Arts teacher.

now explain to me why I can remember that and yet I start glazing over trying to read my interesting archaeological text book. Out of practice reading non-fiction I tells ya!

It is in origin a variation of Will'o'the Wisp from the Devon/Somerset region.

I haven't read Harry in (literally) years. I'm more likely to have picked it up from a half-remembered Katherine Briggs book.

Why that? Why now? Why won't it go away?
