I would like to find the person who thought that blocking all northbound traffic through the Haymarket Roundabout was an acceptable, let alone a good, idea, and ask the felching crack-smoking microcephalic deskbound project manager of an excuse for an anthropod exactly when he became a fucking brain donor.

And the same for every single person who didn't kill this stunningly fucking stupid idea stone dead as ridiculous on its face.

"Still", it looks like. Once again, all northbound traffic is being sent west up Flemington road, and eastbound traffic gets to go south, so the only way for the traffic entering from the south and intending to head even the least bit south (ie. me) is to do a U-turn at the entrence to the goddamn hospital.

I am severely tact deficient right now, so if I sound angry, it's not at you.

1. What felching "crack"? There is lots of signage point people off towards Flemington, but none whatsoever saying why.
2. If there is a crack, is it an emergency fix, or part of the building works? If the former, then some slackness with notification is allowable, but if it's planned works, then it's inexcusable. There was less disruption and more notification when they were rebuilding the entire roundabout.
3. If it is planned works, seriously, WTF? They have unilaterally closed off one of the main thoroughfares in the city with no warning. If this was planned, then there was not the slightest skerrick of warning, not even a handwritten note at a tram stop.
4. If the block of Royal Pde just south of Grattan St is closed off for works (see points 1, 2 and 3 for what I think of that and how it has been handled), why then has all traffic been blocked from the south who want to go back south again??? Even one lane open allowing traffic to move from northbound Elizabeth and northbound Peel around to southbound Elizabeth would be an improvement. The thing is, there is no works on that blocked-off section of the roundabout (they're [ab]using it as a carpark), and traffic eastbound from Flemington road is allowed round to enter Elizabeth southbound. Why can't the northbound traffic go around? As it is, that traffic still has to turn around, and can still enter Grattan st on the other side of the old hospital site, or go around the south and onto Elizabeth, but now the first place it's possible to do this is at the entrance to the Hospital carpark. Obviously, co-opting the turning lane for entering a hospital is a far better solution than leaving even one lane open of a roundabout designed (hah!) for the purpose. If they were to do that, then they might actually have something for the three slow-sign holders to do besides wave on traffic with nowhere else to go anyway.

That does not make me feel any better about it.

There is no notification at the site what the hell is going on, or even a rough estimate how much longer it is expected to continue. Even "forseeable future" is better than the complete silence right now.

And that does not explain why, even if that block is closed off, why traffic isn't allowed to simply move around from the south and exit to the goddamn south again. It can't be because of vibration or pressure or whatever, because then they would have closed southbound Royal pde as well, let alone allowing Flemington to empty onto Elizabeth. The only reason I can think of as to why they'd do it the way they have is "because fuck you, that's why", and quite frankly, I'm too angry at how it's been handled thus far to give any time to anything but an excellent explanation.

I do not expect an excellent explanation, mainly because I am not expecting any explanation at all, or any comment at all beyond an anodyne statement to "avoid the area" with no indication of for how long, and no acknowledgement that that's kind of difficult when they've blocked off a major intersection and it's somehow my fault for working there, and being kind of completely unable to "avoid the area".

I think it's fair to say that the situation wasn't planned. Doesn't make their reaction to it any more palatable, though.
