When I first saw the preview for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, I damn near wet myself, it looks so cool. The Gernsback Continuum on the big screen. Sons of Ether Wet Dream. *drool*.

I have recalibrated my definition of change-of-underwear-coolness.

Mim and I saw the second series of Jim Henson's The Storyteller on Amazon, and bought it. The day it arrived, Mim's mum borrowed it, and we didn't see it again for two weeks. We have just got it back, and we sat down and watched all four episodes this morning. Michael Gambon as the Storyteller, narrating four Greek Myths: Daedalus and Icarus, Orpheus and Euridice, Perseus and the Gorgon, and Theseus and the Minotaur. Dare I say, these are not children's stories. But that is not what was so cool, although it is pretty cool in and of itself.

When we turned on the DVD, there came up a preview, just like you get on VHS. In between the FBI and Interpol warnings, and the main title screen was a preview for this. Mirrormask. Before you go and look at the site, let me just give you an idea why I already own this movie. (It's just a question of when I pay the money, and when it arrives in my hand, but they are just issues of timing.) Story by Niel Gaiman. Design by Dave McKean. Production and special effects by the Jim Henson Creature Factory.

Come back when you've calmed down. I'll wait.

The website gives the synopsis that this is a movie about a girl who grew up in the circus, and dreams of running away and joining the Real World. Then her mother gets sick, and Wierd Stuff happens. I don't know any more than that, but between the three of Gaiman, McKean and Henson Co., what more do you need to know?

I have only seen a 30 second preview and what of the website I could get throught a 56k modem link. I say again: I Already Own This Movie. Discussion of to whom I give the money, how much money, and when I get to put it into my DVD player and press Go are all mere details.

I just love The Storyteller. I have copies of every episode they sent on tv in the late eighties (10 or so episodes), and now I fell an acute need of owning it on DvD...

Are you kidding me! Mirrormask sounds GREAT, how could I have missed a gem like that???

You didn't know about Mirrormask already? Tssk, tssk. How can you be a true geek? I assume you know that Neil Gaiman has a blog with a RSS feed to Live Journal? [livejournal.com profile] enrobso is one of his biggest fans that I know of here. (If you didn't, you might want to take a look at [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman and the [livejournal.com profile] dreaming_rss.)

And when does friggin' Sky Captain... come out? I've been waiting for it for ages. ;(

Tsk. I thought I'd posted on Mirromask. You beat me to it. If you're getting it on DVD- when can we come over? Come to that- when can we come over and see the Greek myths? Bounce!

To view Greek Myths, we'll have to organise something. As for Mirrormask... I'm pretty sure they haven't finished making it yet, but ICBW. Certainly nothing on Amazon. :(
