As I have said before, Abbi and Susi love My Neighbor Totoro.

Yesterday morning, Susi on her own initiative went and found the DVD and brought it to me so I could put it on, and both girls sat and watched intently, often giggling with great glee.

It's Abbi's birthday coming up, and Mim and I thought that it would be nice to get a Totoro toy for her. A stuffed Totoro, for example, or a catbus. We know that stuff like this exists, as we have seen it in, e.g., the dashboard of cars belonging to asian first-years.

So we went looking.

The nearest we've come is that Animasia on Grattan st. has two stuffed Totoro dolls ... for $95 each.

We love Abbi immensely, but that's a bit rich. So: does anyone know where we can get our hands on reasonably priced Totoro Merch, suitable for a 4-year-old?

And, yes, we've looked at eBay and 1) the only stuff was sourced in Hong Kong (and we've been burnt buying things from OS before and not getting it), and 2) I really don't like eBay. At all. Really.

I don't know about Totoro specifically, but there's another anime merch shop in Bourke Street, in an arcade just across from the Bourke/Swanston tram stop. They may have something more reasonably priced.

(Or you may have been there already, in which case ignore me.)

No, I had no idea there was one there. Although, I was looking at Anime suppliers specifically, and if this shop is of the sort I think it might be, it is more of a chibi/kawaii shop, as is popular with asian schoolgirls.

I should have thought that this is precisely what I was actually looking for, however. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks.

Also, have you checked Crown? They have a big Sanrio store, and they have Disney stores, so I'd bet they sell at least some Ghibli-related products (especially as Disneyworld and Disneyland now sell Ghibli products on-site).

Ugh. Doing my level best to boycott the damn place. It has been difficult on occasion, as my cousin and best friend work there, but so far I have managed to with only one exception (and that was my cousin's buck's night...)

Unless this is in the Southbank complex rather than the Casino proper.

Either way, it's not so easy for me to get to. :-/

If I remember I'll have a look at Warner Brothers tomorrow while at Hell on Earth work. Although, I don't recall anything resembling a Sanrio store anywhere (What's Sanrio anyway eh, preciousss? We want's to know...)

Sanrio == Hello Kitty. It's in the arcade behind nike/reader's feast in the city. It is pink. So very pink... But No Tonari no Totoro merch.

Ah, so desune. Nope, definitely not one of those here, or Disney stores either. I'm thinking that [livejournal.com profile] nosyparker is thinking of the general Southbank area, rather than Clown specifically.

I did have a look at the Warner Brothers store this morning, with no Totoro to be found.
