Going into a bookshop and choosing one book, on the other hand, can be impossible. Or picking which book from my own library to read next. Or what music to listen to. Or which job to do next. Or where to take Mim for dinner. Or whatever.
Sounds to me as if part of the problem in may cases may just be too many choices, and an earnest desire to make the 'best' one possible. The conflict between freedom (of choice among other things) and happiness has been coming up a lot in the media lately. I'm pretty sure Alain de Bouton (or whatever his name is) had something to say about 'choice anxiety', and here is another philosopher musing on the subject.
It's a common problem I think, and one I certainly have issues with too.
On the subject of the car, you've made your decision and I think it's a good one. Cars seem to be meant to cause us vast amounts of stress. Just like children and pets. I think we should avoid all three, for our own mental health...
