It came out later yesterday that this guy was on the Refugee Review Tribunal. Yes, I agree that Prof Bagaric seems like a very bizarre and creepy individual with the potential to do a great deal of harm to many people. *shudder* If no other good comes from this, at least he's been removed from that particular position.
