Government logic

Mim got a letter from the Family Assistance office recently. It stated that because the Cost Of Living had increased, but our rent hadn't, that we would recieve about $1 less a fortnight in Family Assistance Benefits.

Think about the logic of that for a second:

• Things are more expensive,
• except for one expenditure,
• therefore you need less money to live.

WTF?

• It wasn't illegal!...
  
• It was illegal, but no-one could possibly have known.
  
• People could have known, but it wasn't like they should have known.
  
• People should have known, but they didn't. How could we know?
  
• People knew, but they didn't tell anybody. How could we know?
  
• People knew, but they told the wrong people.
  
• The right people were contacted, but too late.
  
• The right people were contacted years ago, but it wasn't thought serious at the time.
  
• It was thought serious at the time, but no-one told the ministries.
  
• The ministries knew, but no-one told the ministers.
  
• The minsters knew, but made some notes to tell someone to investigate further and thought no more of the matter, and this vindicates everything we have claimed on the matter so far.

Am I up to date yet?

The Commonwealth Ozzie Games, Oy! Oy! Oy!

I've heard rumours that other countries are competing, but based on the TV, radio and newspaper coverage this seems to be a myth. Certainly no-one other than an Australian has won a single gold medal, except where Aussies won silver and bronze.

An Australian won the women's marathon. And we saw most of it live, and repeats of her crossing the line for the next day. And another Aussie came fifth, but collapsed from heat stroke. Hmm. Didn't I see some black-skinned person come second, making the last 300 meters a sprint? She can't have been important. But who won the men's marathon? And why haven't we seen any of it? I thought it ran the same day as the women's...
