We'd love to do something, but you can't trust Terrorists. Besides, he's probably already dead.

...Oh, you mean sending people to actually go and talk to them had a response? ... Well, they won't deal with the Government, and we're not going to negotiate with Terrorists. Their demands are outrageous, anyway, and he's probably already dead.

... so, they just want a few women released from high security prison? But, but, these are ... um... Chemical Sally Jasmina and ... umm... Anthrax Jill Fatima! They're dangerous, dangerous people! We can't allow them to just go free! (What was that, the Iraqis have said there is no reason to hold them, and no reason why they shouldn't go free?... hang on, the US is saying Oh No You Don't, and apparantly the Iraqi government doesn't actually have the power to release its own prisoners, so that's alright.) Anyway, he's probably already dead.

... He's had another video released proving he's still alive? Oh, and he seems to be angry at the UK govenment for some reason. Can't understand why — must be Stockholm Syndrome. And the Terrorists have said that they want to talk to us? That they want to let him go?

... Umm, maybe, you know, given the political disaster this is becoming humanitarian angle, just this once, we might consider, you know, maybe talking to these people? Not that its at all possible that they might have a legitimate grudge or anything, heaven forfend. They're Unreasoning Terrorists. And wogs. But maybe, just this once, we might be able to intervene in a way that doesn't need to result in people dying.

Will wonders never cease?

Bwa ha ha!
