catsidheWe must protect the rights of women to wear what they want. And it is imperative that we do this by controlling what they are allowed to wear.
Which seems, on the face of it, to be a stupid concept from the get-go, unless the real reason is assimilation and to legally force people to forgo their strange and foreign (and therefore by definition wrong) customs.
Whatever we may think of them and their symbology, women choose to wear them, they feel naked and exposed without them, and to ban them outright is like banning shirts or long pants to most Western women: you would, rightly, feel it to be a demeaning and embarrassing imposition, and it would very likely cause you to restrict your appearances in public.
(So well done bigots of the world for proposing a law to free women from patriarchy, which would have the effect of forcing them to hide at home. Well done indeed.)
But anyway: the cry from the right around the West, in Australia, France, and the US, is that Muslim women cover themselves up too much, and need to show some skin to be free. Maybe wear more lipstick. Take pole-dancing classes. That sort of thing.
So some Muslim women take them up. They get into their bikinis, polish their teeth, and enter beauty competitions.
And win.
Wonderful, right? I mean, a Muslim chick has gone out there, against the pull of her outdated, verily mediaeval concept of modesty, put on a couple of hankies and a smile, and paraded herself in front of cameras so successfully that she won the prize: kudos to her, right?
NO! WRONG! WHEN MUSLIMS WIN BEAUTY CONTESTS, IT'S AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!
Really, people, get with the tropes. No Muslim woman could possibly be pretty enough to win a beauty competition (I mean, look at the photos he shows, just look at them, they're hideous), so it must be a CONSPIRACY! Teh m0sl3mz0r are taking overs ON0Z!!
No, really. Muslim chicks winning beauty pageants is a sign of immanent world-wide Dhimmitude.
You can't make this shit up. And, as Jeff Sparrow says, it's an impossible double-standard.
Muslims won't be accepted as people until they prove that they have abandoned all the characteristics which distinguish them. And yet, and yet, as soon as they do, as soon as they jump through the very hoops demanded of them, as soon as they start to show success anyway, then that's taken away too, because, you see, they don't mean it: they're plants, softening us up, weakening society's resolve to fight. They're fifth columns, every single one of them.
And it's so easy to prove. Born in Lebanon? You're a Hisbollah supporter! (I mean, who cares if the reason your family fled Lebanon was to escape Hizbollah in the first place?) Iran? Well, you're Iranian, who cares if you left to get away from the Religious Police everyone keeps talking about, right?
There is no way they can win. If they put up with a wretched situation, they're complicit. If they fight, they're abandoned to a worse horror yet. And if they dare, dare flee, then they're fifth columns, planted agents, precursors to Eurabia and Dhimmitude for the rest of us.
And we've seen this pattern of demonisation before.
The Marranos were under exactly the same trap: if they negated everything about their past and selves, if they annihilated their own history, then they might be allowed to live. But never trusted. Never allowed to be fully recognised human beings. Never free of the fear of the knock on the door in the dark of night.
And when institutional Christian xenophobia and hatred wasn't quite enough, then institutional Nationalistic xenophobia and hatred did the trick. On an industrial scale.
But that would never happen to Muslims, right? After all, they really are a clear and present danger to Western civilisation! Honest! Ask anyone who can't bring themselves to see Muslim people as people, but as the Muslim Horde undermining us and diluting our precious bodily fluids! (But will swear blind that ‘... I have a friend who is Muslim, but...’).
Because, sure, all that was said about the Jews once, but that was all bullshit, we know that now. This time it's different. Honest.
