Debian/XP dual boot. XP works straight off.
Debian needs some persuasion.
One bespoke Debian ISO bootfloppy for Dells, Radeon driver installation (harder than it sounds) and two kernel compiles later, the result is Debian woody running KDE2 at 1600x1200 on a 19" CRT, with USB intellimouse.

Now for getting the sound card to work...
Keeping with my personal naming scheme, where my old desktop is Agrippa, and my two PCs at home are Dee and Crowley, my new toy's name is Paracelsus. No points for guessing the paradigm, it's too easy.
